IN THIS ISSUE 🌱
Good Morning {{first_name}}!
It’s Monday - and that means it’s time for your CRM Dispatch - an issue where we dig into your digital marketing with a CRM lens. ✨
One of my biggest pet peeves in the CRM space is the linear thinking regarding the lifecycle stages. When you then break down each stage by time, it becomes an even bigger mess.

You see, lifecycle stages exist in most CRMs. And most of the time, some of these are auto-populated. And while these work for sales, they also need to work for marketing. Ready!?
Let’s dive in.

LIFECYCLE STAGE IS NOT A BUCKET ✨
CRM FOUNDATIONS THAT BREAK THE SYSTEM
The field nobody segments on
The lifecycle stage is a defining stage in your CRM in terms of contacts and companies. It tells you whether they are a lead or a customer - or somewhere in between.
However, a single lead could be brand new, as in - within the last 48 hours - or a lead could be someone who has had multiple conversations with sales but never progressed - in three years.
A lead is a lead is a lead - but there are varying stages of a lead. Same with customers. And yet, only 37% of all email campaigns leverage the lifecycle stage in effective campaign sends.

NURTURE BASED ON TIMELINE 🌊
THE PROBLEM
What this is costing you right now
How expensive is it to avoid proper segmentation on your lifecycle stages? Well, a new lead and a 3-year customer receiving an identical email will lead to trust issues.
A lead needs education and entry to the company. A customer needs continuous value and trust - and feels like they are growing with the company through great results.
Do you offer something that saves them time and money? That’s what will keep them there. If they get the same kind of language and email as a new lead, it will start to change the relationship.
One way to measure this is through open rates and CTRs, as they’ll slowly start declining. Over time, those emails turn into suppressions due to low engagement.

LAYER IN SEGMENTS ⚡
BREAKING DOWN THE FIX
Segment on what you already have
You probably have more segments than you realize. Time-stamps, email conversations, meetings that are recorded, abandoned deals, contact create date, etc - these can all be used and layered with lifecycle status to give you better - and a more personalized - email strategy.
Go back and review your last 10 sends and examine the segmentation. Was lifecycle part of it? Was any segmentation truly strong enough to be personalized based on the contact’s relationship with your business?

TOP STORIES IN THE INDUSTRY
What’s happening in digital this week
🤖 Google Ads Hands More Control to AI, Effective July 1
Google's updated terms let its systems generate targeting, ad copy, and destinations by default, with AI Max phasing out manual controls through 2027, and as acquisition gets handed off to automation like this, lifecycle stage becomes one of the few levers marketers still control by hand, which makes it a strange field to keep neglecting.
📉 Meta Retires the Off-Platform Data Opt-Out
Meta is folding its privacy controls into one setting this month, making previously-invisible users matchable again for retargeting and lookalikes, and a wider audience pool only pays off if the lifecycle stage attached to each contact is accurate; otherwise you're just retargeting existing customers with a first-touch offer at a bigger scale.
🗂️ HubSpot Ships Stage-Velocity Properties
New calculated fields, Time in Current Stage and Date Entered Current Stage, now track exactly how long a contact sits in each lifecycle bucket, and this is the platform quietly building the infrastructure lifecycle segmentation has needed for years, which means the excuse that the data's too messy to segment on gets weaker every month.
📝 LinkedIn's 360Brew Update Rewards Depth Over Engagement Bait
LinkedIn's algorithm now reads posts for genuine topical expertise and throttles generic, hashtag-stuffed content, and the leads this sends your way arrive further along in their thinking, which makes it that much more costly to greet them with a cold, top-of-funnel welcome sequence built for someone who's never heard of you.
🔍 AI Overviews Now Appear on Roughly Half of Google Searches
Organic click-through has dropped sharply on queries where an AI summary appears, meaning fewer but more qualified sessions reach your site, and when top-of-funnel traffic gets this expensive to earn, every one of those visitors deserves a lifecycle-aware follow-up instead of a generic sequence that treats them like a stranger.

FINAL THOUGHTS 💡
CLOSING THE LOOP
TL;DR
The lifecycle stage in your CRM is one of the most powerful stages you can use in your digital marketing. But it becomes a powerful mechanism when paired with additional stages and filters.
How was this issue!?
